            Abstract:
Interactive multimedia is becoming ubiquitous in education and
business context. In particular it is at the heart of a
communications revolution for professional learners. In this
tutorial session we will explore a range of key technologies that
are allowing learners to leverage presence, mobility, and
interaction in wholly new ways. We will look at a series of live
case studies in shared cooperative at-a-distance learning in
educational and at-work contexts. Through the ProLEARN network all
tutorial attendees will be given live accounts with innovative
presence and telepresence demonstrators, such as FlashMeeting and
			Hexagon.
The introduction of information and communication
technologies in education in general, and of Web-based
experimentation solutions in engineering education in particular,
presents many challenges. In this presentation we will discuss the
current situation according to the institutional, educational and
technological objectives. The aim is to outline a way toward
enhanced functionalities of the learning resources and expended
learning opportunities in higher education. Outline:

His research group prototypes the application of new
technologies and media to learning at all levels. Three key
threads at the moment are: telepresence; streaming media
systems; and agent research. Dr Scott has a BA (1983) and
PhD (1987) in Psychology. Before joining the Open University
in 1995, Dr Scott lectured in Psychology and Cognitive
Science at the University of Sheffield. He has a textbook in
each of these subjects. He has managed over 15 major grants,
and has over 40 research publications. He has acted as an
