1. About Shanghai City      [...detail]

Shanghai , an open city on the coast and famous historical city, occupies a total area of 6,341 sq.km with a total resident population of 16,000,000. It is a gate to the Yangtze River delta and its average temperature is around 18oC, so the pleasant climate of Shanghai makes visitors have a very pleasant time.

Shanghai has rich humanistic resources, such as the Oriental Pearl TV Tower (Fig. 1), Shanghai Grand Theatre, and Jin Mao Tower , etc. Moreover, Expo 2010 will be held in Shanghai from May 1 to Oct 31, 2010 and expected visitors will be up to 70 million (Fig.2 to Fig.3).

Shanghai has very convenient transportation. The international Pudong airport connects our city with different countries and regions in the world. The Hongqiao airport, railways, highways and ports shorten the distance between Shanghai and other domestic cities.

2. About Shanghai University      [...detail]

Shanghai University is one of the key universities in the “Project 211” . The current president of the university is Professor Qian Weichang, a famous educator, scientist, social activist and member of Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Shanghai University is a comprehensive university with 23 schools and one independent department, and is a key talents training base for Shanghai municipality. Shanghai University boasts research excellence among top universities in China and is also known for its vigorous international exchanges and cooperation. So far the University has established academic links and cooperation with dozens of foreign universities, including faculty and student exchanges. Currently over 2,400 international students study on Shanghai University campuses. Our University will become a first class comprehensive research university to serve Shanghai as a modern international metropolis.

3. About School of Computer Engineering and Science [detail]

The School of Computer Engineering and Science sets one program: computer science and technology for undergraduates. She also offers the following master degree programs: 1) computer application technology, 2) computer software and theory, 3) computer architecture and organization. The school also sets two doctoral research directions: 1) high reliability computing and information processing, and 2) computer application technology. Now “ZiQiang 3000 High Performance Computer System of Shanghai University(Fig.9)” is working in our school, which was listed as the 126 th place among the first 500 Super Computers of the 23 rd session in the world.

Several International Conferences have been held in Shanghai University , such as, the 2008 International Conference on Intelligent Computing (ICIC 2008), the 8 th IEEE/ACIS International Conference on Computer and Information Science (ICIS 2009), and the 2008 International Conference on Intelligent Computing, etc. All of these demonstrate the ability of our school to host important international conferences such as ICWL 2010.
